THE SLAVIC IDEA – BETWEEN IDEOLOGICAL INTENT, POLITICALMANIPULATION AND SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATIONS

Summary/Abstract: The article aims to highlight some insufficiently discussed moments, related to the idea of a Slavic community. It outlines the factors causing its appearance, as well as some of its specific realisations in various national contexts from its formation at the end of the 18th century as a subject of scientific knowledge to its transformation into a political movement serving imperial interests. In this context the article notes the feeble presence of the Bulgarian theme in the science and literature of Croatians and Czechs and the presence of some unsubstantiated scientific theses and artistic interpretations. A special attention is paid to the Panslavic concept and its various interpretations in the Bulgarian Revival press.
