Summary/Abstract: Litigants can access court rulings of ongoing cases through the website portal.just.ro, known as the Courts Portal. There are cases, however, and not a few, where the litigants have to bear the consequences of errors in terms of the way the court ruling is displayed on the portal – littered with question marks that replace some letters, making reading and fast and accurate comprehension of the meaning difficult. As the Portal automatically fetches these texts from ECRIS – the system that manages court cases, it follows that the problem is with ECRIS, and, indeed, application users from the courts, clerks and judges, can observe such text filled with question marks and, of course, wonder what the cause for this erroneous render is and how it can be avoided. The answer can be found in this article, which aims to identify the cause of error and provide a correct solution, by also bringing into focus aspects of Romanian language spelling, typewriting and the use of linguistic tools provided by the Windows operating system.
