Summary/Abstract: The article present the last group of principles drafted by the Commission on European Family Law: Principles of European Family Law regarding Property, Maintenance and Succession Rights of Couples in de facto Unions. These Principles are the result of a comparative legal study in 29 EU Member States and Russia and provide ideas for the development of family law protection for partners. The article briefly examines the essential characteristics of de facto unions, in accordance with their regulation in the Principles, outlines the main approaches in the legislations studied by the Commission and sketches the international legal framework within which the regulation of non-marital partnerships should be situated and understood. A translation of the Principles into Bulgarian is offered at the end of the article.
