Summary/Abstract: From an epistemological point of view, literature borrows its resources from linguistics to rethink its material that goes beyond meaning and inscribes the text (the narrative) in a new adventure. The precursors of the new novel liked to say that it was no longer a question of making this genre “the story of an adventure” but “the adventure of a story”. This is what motivates us to question Flaubert again, through a chosen scene, by engaging a dialogue with a style that places the text between multimodality and multiliteracy. In our view, the objective is to measure the impact of the gaze as a means of situating the text at the height of the intensity of a communication which, obviously, is filled with silence, false silence.
