Summary/Abstract: In this study, it was aimed to determine whether there is a relationship between high school students' problematic social media use and cognitive distortions. The research group consisted of 419 students studying in different high schools of Bingöl Province. Convenience sampling method was preferred in the sample of the research group. Personal information form, thinking types scale and social media disorder scale were used as data collection tools in this study. Independent t-test, pearson correlation analysis, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the use of problematic social media did not show a significant difference according to gender, but the use of problematic social media differed significantly according to age. In addition, as a result of the research, it was determined that cognitive distortions of catastrophizing and labeling significantly predicted problematic social media use, and cognitive distortions showed a significant difference in favor of girls according to gender. It was found that there was a significant difference according to age in terms of cognitive distortions. According to the findings of this research, it has been determined that there is a positive and significant relationship between cognitive distortion and problematic social media use.
