Maturity Models for Information Systems: the Case of Digital Libraries and Research Data Services

Summary/Abstract: Purpose/Thesis: The aim of the article is to present the concept of the maturity of object/process/organization and its applicability in the assessment of information systems. The author constructs models of information systems maturity for the purpose of this study. Approach/Methods: Building upon the analysis of existing literature, the article defines maturity of information system and presents a model. The article takes selected types of information systems as an example: digital libraries and research data services (RDS). Results and conclusions: The models of information systems maturity are useful for as[1]sessing all kinds of systems, both traditional and computerized. They fulfill three different functions: diagnostic, comparative and prescriptive. Originality/Value: In Polish literature, there are no publications on the models of information systems maturity and their application. However, we should note the similarities between the issues of information systems maturity and the LibQual+ method of assessing information services in Polish libraries.
