Summary/Abstract: Traditionally, the post-merger integration stage has been implemented upon realization of the transaction. Nonetheless, this approach frequently ignites postponements and frictions that have a large impact on the transaction benefits. It is considerably more efficient to apply the integration process in earlier stages and to execute it in a disciplined manner, as is often witnessed by companies that have been engaged in multiple and successful mergers and acquisitions. This paper elaborates that even though a stategic merger/acquisition plan is well selected for the purpose of ‘doing the right thing’, the plan should also be adequately implemented, i.e. it should be ‘done the right way’. Even the best ranked mergers and acquisitions may be subject to failure due to poor integration. In that sense, concerned entities must pay due attention to numerous aspects pertaining to the domain of organizational behavior, business strategy, organizational structure and culture, as well as company-wide policies.
