Summary/Abstract: The article presents the conceptualization of the phenomenon of so-called symmetrism, presented in the media by its proponents and critics (symmetrists and alarmists). As shown by the content analysis and rhetorical characterization of the journalistic texts from 2016–2019, the conflict resulted from the inability to specify what symmetry was. The analysis also reveals the misinterpretation of the intentions of the participants in the discussion and the political dispute that erupted in the journalistic environment. The study traces various ways of conceptualising symmetrism, the extinction of the discussion, and the subsequent presence of the lexis related to this rhetorical phenomenon in media discourse. This indicates that a process of crystallising of the topos of symmetrism is underway. The topos may consolidate itself as a universal conviction about the ambiguity of all life events. However, it cannot be ruled out that in the context of conflicts of world views, it will remain only a negatively charged label.
