Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present patterns and rhetorical activities in contemporary improvisational theatre (improv) that build audience involvement and evoke emotions. The research focused on two areas: the presentation of improvisers’ frames of conduct from and the rules from the improv textbooks, over which a rhetorical perspective was imposed, and Burke’s theory of identification with the audience. In order to exemplify the presented theories, a long fiction improv performance was presented. The analysis showed that in the improvised performance one can find rhetorical acts used in order to evoke emotional reactions, and maintain the attention of the audience.
