Summary/Abstract: The volume of migration has reached its highest in Turkey and globally. As such irregular migration grows with the growing international migration. Discrimination against irregular migrants due to their status is as unacceptable as the criminalization of irregular migration. However, migrants’ social rights, especially the right to health care, despite some exceptions, are often restricted. This study aims to explore access to health care for Azerbaijani irregular migrants living in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul. The study was conducted using in-depth interviews with 26 irregular immigrants from Azerbaijan, 23 of whom were men and 3 women. Besides, statistical data from official institutions were used. The findings show that irregular migrants’ access to healthcare is very limited in Turkey. This may have the risk of a higher burden on the healthcare system in the future, as well as negatively affecting public health. A new and more inclusive health policy is needed to respect human rights.
