Modernisms of the 21st century. The problem of periodization and the Romanian case. The crisis of operational concepts

Summary/Abstract: In the light of social and anthropological resumption of the idea of modernity and the resemantization proposed by the category of "contemporary", modernism has been rethought in the last three decades both vertically and horizontally. The proliferation of modernisms in recent years by means of new modernist studies is not (yet) felt in the (re)reading of Romanian modernism. Theoreticians such as Matei Călinescu, the favorite reference of the '80s generation, and Antoine Compagnon, a new century discovery, still play an important role in stimulating local theoretical production.
