ÎNTRE TRECUT ȘI PREZENT. O NECROPOLĂ DIN SECOLUL AL IV-LEA DE PE TERITORIUL MUNICIPIULUI CĂLĂRAȘI
BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT: A FOURTH CENTURY NECROPOLIS OF THE CITY OF CĂLĂRAȘI

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to present the osteoarchaeological data obtained following the anthropological analysis performed on five skeletons discovered during rescue archaeological interventions in Călărași.The analysed material consisted of five adult individuals with a very poor state of preservation. Four of the individuals were determined as female and only one was male. Two of the skeletons determined as females had preauricular sulcus on the coxal bones, the sulcus maybe attesting to repetitive parturition. Regarding the biological age at death, the analysed individuals are determined as adults, with ages between 30 and 60 years. The pathologies found on the skeletons of the individuals correspond with various diseases caused by aging such as dental arthritis, caries, antemortem tooth loss, abscesses, osteoarthritis and vertical intervertebral herniation, as well as infectious diseases and cribrotic lesions. Two of the skeletons had markers that signalled occupational/biomechanical stress.
