Summary/Abstract: The author discusses the trends and results of the emigration of Poles in the historical perspective. The main considerations are devoted for the period after the Second World War. The author describes the Polish communities created as a result of economic and political emigration. He shows different policy objectives of the communist authorities towards both communities. Much space is devoted to the Towarzystwo Łączności z Polonią Zagraniczną "Polonia ".
