Central Europe on the road to NATO and the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The author characterizes social, political and economic processes in Central European countries that in 1989 freed themselves from the Soviet domination. By doing so, he uses their similarities and differences. Eliminating – in different ways – the remnants of the communist regimes, those countries began to build democratic system. The countries took advantage of the end of the cold war to establish regional cooperation and – after meeting up necessary conditions – they joined NATO and the European Union.
