Summary/Abstract: The author starts her article by showing the Polish presence in the Italian Peninsula in earlier epochs. Then she describes in details successive waves of Polish emigration to Italy from the end of the Second World War to the present times. Much attention is devoted to the deliberations and characteristics of the reasons and goals of the Polish emigration after December 1981, the political outbreak of 1989 and Poland's accession to the European Union in 2004. The author presents the living conditions of Poles in Italy, the attitude of the natives towards Poles, the policy of the Polish authorities towards the diaspora.
