Information Overproduction as an Integrating Research Category

Summary/Abstract: The multi-channel and multi-code transmission of mass-generated information, combined with the interdisciplinarity of descriptions of the processes of communication and the information influence on people, makes it necessary to strengthen the need for multidimensional analysis of information overproduction and information overload as research objects. Communication and media studies can make a particular contribution because of their research “multimodality”. The paper outlines the dimensions and aspects of information overproduction and information overload already investigated from the information science perspective. The study also presents the selected solutions such as knowledge organization systems, and information culture concepts.
