Summary/Abstract: The article is a voice in the discussion on teaching Polish word formation as a foreign language. The author notes that in teaching Polish as a foreign language, there are two positions regarding teaching derivations: systemic and lexical (semantic). The author claims that word formation is both a regular and irregular system, which is why the researcher shows that the systemic and lexical approach to derivation can be combined in teaching Polish as a foreign language. In addition, the author suggests to remember about the relationships between linguistic subsystems, i.e. between word formation and phonetics, graphics, inflection, syntax, and even textology.
