Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the feminist journalism of Marie Štechová (1890–1970) from 1915– 1930. The texts were published partly in Czech and partly in Slovak. Their speaker is a philosophically and religiously minded intellectual whose concern is to pass on her own insights and experiences as a form of practical advice. The expressionism and pathos of the early texts give way to irony in the 1920s. Respect for individuality, the right to a selfdetermined life and fulfilment in intellectual activity are central themes. The struggle for female self -assertion is situated in urban bourgeois society. Nature, on the other hand, is recommended as a place of private contemplation and ultimately also inner emigration. Štechová’s views are based on the ethos of the pre -war women’s rights movement, but her demands are placed on a new argumentative basis.
