Summary/Abstract: The discourse on wealth and poverty in certain texts of both Old and New testaments establishes the basis for a Biblical, theological-economical ethics that demands struggle against poverty and advises social solidarity. That is why many contemporary sociological concepts and ideologies refer to Holy Scriptures. Both leftist and neo-liberal socio-economical theories present ancient authors of the Bible as their “ancestors”. This paper presents a review of Biblical understanding of poverty and wealth, putting it into a dialogue with modern theories.
