Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the concept of theatricality in the context of Ukrainian theater of the XX-XXI centuries. On the example of performances of different pe-riods based on classical plays – “Natalka Poltavka” by I. Kotlyarevsky (directed by F. Stryhun, 1991), “Marriage” by M. Gogol (directed by A. Babenko, 2009), “Na-ked King “by E. Schwartz (directed by V. Sikorsky, 2016) is investigated the use of its techniques by the traditional theatrical team – the National Theater. M. Zankovetska 1990--2010. Other manifestations of conditional theater are consid-ered, the concept of “performativity” in the theory of world theater is analyzed and some of its features in the work of the National Theater named after M. Zanko-vetska as a cultural institution of national level is singled out.
