Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of the legal (im)possibility of ending of the financing of churches by the Slovak Republic (i. e., ending of the funding for the salaries of the clergy, the course of worship services, and the administration of churches), based on the state’s hypothetical unilateral decision. The authors analyze the issue in the context of the existing treaties of the Slovak Republic with the Holy See and with registered churches and religious societies. They discuss and consider possible arguments and conclude that such a unilateral step is not legally possible. They also note the legal paths that churches and religious societies could take if such a step was to take place.
