Summary/Abstract: The collection contains eleven selected articles by Prof. Dr. Natasha Yapova, musicologist, and lecturer at the “Professor Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music. Its compiler and editor is Iliya Gramatikoff. It was released on the occasion of her 70th anniversary. The collection presents an important part of Natasha Yapova’s scientific contribution, who in recent decades has established herself as one of the most significant and influential modern Bulgarian musicologists, whose works have been repeatedly cited by both well-established scientists and younger generations of music researchers. Written in the period between 1993 and 2020 and published in various scientific editions, the texts have been compiled in two sections: “Towards the Question of the Boundaries of Nationalism in Music: the Bulgarian Case” and “Towards the Idea of Progress in Music”. In the first section, it is the articles on Bulgarian artists and works as well as the music-historical processes in Bulgarian music that are particularly impressive in terms of authorial viewpoints. In the second section, Natasha Yapova’s extensive erudition and teaching activities take her to a wide range of topics dedicated to figures of Western European music history (Forkel, Mozart and Beethoven), Russia’s music (Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich), Romania (Enescu) and Bulgaria (the so-called Bulgarian avantgarde). The book would be of interest to all who are interested in contemporary Bulgarian musicological thought as well as, of course, her students, to whom it has been dedicated.
