Organization of the Free Republic Section Giresun and the 1930 Municipal Elections

Summary/Abstract: This study deals with the organization of Giresun Province of the Free Republican Party (SCF), which was opened on 12 August 1930 with the initiatives of Ali Fethi Bey (Okyar), and the process of its closure with the 1930 municipal election. As it is known, the economic crisis that affected the whole world in 1929 had a severe impact on our country as well. The economic and social problems caused by the economic crisis in our country gradually increased and this led to reactions. This situation enabled the SCF to be effective in the coastal areas and caused many opposition groups to support the SCF, which criticized the mismanagement of the ruling party. The SCF Giresun Provincial organization was subjected to harsh criticism, especially by the Republican People's Party (CHF), the ruling party of the time. The intelligence reports produced by the CHF caused the SCF organization in Giresun to be closed down by stating that there are people with reactionary activities and communism there intensely. In this study, our aim is to analyze and convey the socio-economic and social structure of the mobility of the SCF organization in the Black Sea Region.
