Summary/Abstract: During the history of procedural law the oath de calumnia has occupied one of the most important places, both within the system of secular and canon law. Its primary aim was, above all, to prove the good faith of the litigant with regard to the case being heard. The main purpose of the article is to highlight the definition of these kinds of oaths in mediaeval and modern canonist manuals, including ways of their procedural application in the courts of the time.
