Registration of Churches and Religious Societies in Slovakia – Current Initiatives

Summary/Abstract: The article provides a contribution to the professional discussion on the registration of churches and religious societies in Slovakia. It raises the issue of numerical census, which is one of the conditions for obtaining the registration of a new church and religious society, and also looks at the conclusion of agreements between the state and churches which enshrine the rights of churches in the public sphere. The author also contemplates the possibility of taking inspiration from Czech legislation, which, however, also has certain shortcomings. Above all, the author stresses the thesis that the result of any discussion in a democratic society must be to preserve the essence and meaning of the application of religious freedom in all its dimensions.
