Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author presents an analysis of the issue of the subordinate clause, which, as a syntactically subordinate unit, occupies the subordinate clause position as the position occupied by what is considered to be the only independent clause member of a two-membered sentence. He regards the contradiction between these phenomena as only apparent, for the subject position retains its syntactic essence, i.e. its independence and hence its exceptionality, even when occupied by a subordinate clause, and the manner of its occupation in the form of a subordinate clause is only one of the many ways of occupying this position.
