Summary/Abstract: Clement the Black belonged to the elite of the Łódź burghers in the second half of the 16th century. He was a juror in municipal court in the years 1561–1572, in 1573 he become a councilor and held this office until his death in 1594. He made his last will on February 10 of that year. Four daughters: Dorothy, Sophia, Catherine and Anne received dowries in money of 6 marks each. At the same time, all the arable lands and gardens were given to his three sons: Wojciech, Stanislaw and Mark, with whom he was to live until his death. The will contains the location of the property of Clement the Black and his well-known neighbors, as well as many old topographic names from the area of today’s Łódź. Importantly, the local dialect of the town appears in this document.
