Summary/Abstract: Scenographic strategies for the representation of the violence of slavery increasingly make use of immersive displays, which dramatise museum spaces and aim to deeply affect visitors. We propose a comparative study of three scenographic displays devoted to a topos of slavery history museums: the representation of the Middle Passage (transatlantic crossing): those of the International Museum of Slavery (Liverpool, UK), the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (Cincinnati, OH, USA), and the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum (Baltimore, MA, USA). The use of these displays finally shows the changes in sensitivity towards the historical phenomenon of slavery.
