Summary/Abstract: In the early 1960s, the PRR Academy finalised the publication of a series of sources volumes concerning the events of 1821. Since then, new sources have become accessible, mostly by digitising the archival and published sources. The translation of the documents now published in the “A. D. Xenopol” Institute Yearbook values the electronic access to the press of the former Austrian Empire on the website of the National Austrian Library (https://anno.onb.ac.at/). We have selected, transcribed, and translated 19 articles concerning Tudor Vladimirescu’s uprising and Alexandre Ypsilanti’s campaign of 1821, extracted from German-language newspaper: namely, “Lemberger Zeitung” [The Liov Newspaper], “Österreichischer Beobachter” [The Austrian Observer],“Der Wanderer” [The Wanderer], and “Wiener Zeitung” [The Vienna Newspaper].Among them, 18 articles are descriptive. They comprise the information available to editorial staff, reproducing in most cases the correspondences sent from Moldavia and Wallachia by the eye witnesses of the events. It is worth noting the fascinating account of a merchant from Bucharest, discussing the panic experienced by the inhabitants of that city upon hearing about Vladimirescu’s uprising and Ypsilanti’s expedition, as well as the fear of Turks’ arrival. Though a little late, the German-language press in the Austrian Empire published regularly and minutely the events of the Principalities, reflecting beyond doubt the public’s interest for the events abroad.
