The Effect of Nepotism on Intention to Leave of Aviation Employees

Summary/Abstract: Aviation is one of the sectors where the phenomenon of safety is prioritized. Therefore, the transaction made has a rule and procedure. In this respect, the employee working in the aviation sector must be qualified and perform their work in accordance with the rules. In this context, it becomes important to employ qualified employees in the sector and to act according to the principle of merit. Nepotism, is a phenomenon completely opposed to the understanding of merit. Because, job suitability and qualification come after reference. This will have many negative effects on other employees, and over time, the intention to leave will emerge. The aim of this study is to reveal the effects of nepotism / favoritism on the intention to leave the job of aviation employees. In order to reveal the relationship between the phenomenon of favoritism and the intention to leave, data were collected through questionnaires from 388 employees working in airline, ground handling and airport businesses where operating in Turkey. The obtained data were analyzed with quantitative analysis methods. Scope of this study; The nepotistic attitudes of employees working in airline, ground handling and airport operations within the organization, the effects of these attitudes on the intention to leave, and the relationship between the demographic variables of aviation employees are revealed. In this context, it is expected that the study will contribute to the literature and reveal the nepotism / favoritism experienced in the aviation sector.
