Summary/Abstract: The vast freedom, which appeared with the establishment of contemporary democratic regimes, is that of choice. These seem to be free- the human individual can choose anything - but, if we were to analyze them from an ethical and axiological meta-positioning, they prove to be limited and extremely limiting. Freedom of choice proves to be, in fact, the reduction and narrowing of the idea of freedom. The absolute freedom is lessened to the possibility of choice, and this, in its turn, is out of two items only – the fact that these are different toys, cars, or political parties is irrelevant. What is to be observed and analysed in the present text is the infantilizing reduction to the level of concrete operations, which allows to evade the formal and post-formal ones worthy of the adult stage. This article aims to investigate several aspects of this intellectual reductionism and thus to reveal the serious infantilization of the adult population that lives with the illusion of freedom of choice in a regulated and standardised world.
