Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the functions of narrative microstructure or the simplest forms in Stevan Sremаc's novel Vukadin. Genres of oral literature, such as a funny story, anecdote and legend, are especially present in the novel. Such genres mostly form the basis of his work, and especially anecdotes from real life have such a role, while funny stories in Vukadin are inserted into comic discourse and are closely related to anecdotes. Legend as a microstructure is especially important because of the way Stevan Sremac narrates. Through the main character, he does not portray only one comic and extremely grotesque person in numerous anecdotes, but presents Vukadin as the bearer of one tradition, and only through the legend the main character emphasizes his identity. This paper has the task of proving that this type of hero is still possible, because its relevance is reflected in the constant conflict of modern and traditional, moral and immoral, but also urban and rural. Through the analysis of certain microstructures that originate from oral literature, it is necessary to determine the function they perform and how they influence the construction of the plot, the creation of comedy and digressive moments in the novel. In addition to this, it is necessary to investigate the presence of short oral genres during the description of the provincial place, but also what role they play in determining the types of heroes in Vukadin.
