Summary/Abstract: This article aims to focus on the representation of different levels of suffering and failure in two novels of great value in twentieth‐century literature: The Family of Pascual Duarte by Camilo José Cela and Malone Dies by Samuel Beckett. The main objective of this study was to distinguish different types of faults, create a general typology, and then consider each type with additional analyses and examples from the two authors. This study is mainly based on comparative associations between the psychological implications of the concepts of failure and suffering and their reflections in novels.
