Summary/Abstract: Starting from general to private, using various sources: from the documents in the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to his private correspondence and his diary, from the Library of the Romanian Academy, in this paper we analyzed the coordinates of the diplomatic missions of Dimitrie I. Ghica in Athens (1898-1900), at a time when the national movements in the Balkans were more and more intense. During his time, the Romanian-Greek relations had overcome previous moments of crisis. We can talk about the normalization of the bilateral relations at a time when the „Aromanian question” was on the agenda of the Romanian government. An erudite spirit, an old school diplomat, passionate about history, Dimitrie I. Ghica integrated perfectly into the Greek society, his first mandate being free of major incidents.
