Bosnian particles and grammatical category of person

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses words that scholarship considers particles and that show a certain relationship to the grammatical category of person. The following words and expressions are analyzed: bȋvā, bȍgami, bȍgati, bȏgdō, bȏgznā, bȏjse, dȃj, jȅ li (jȅ l’), jȅst, ȍvō, ȍnō, tȏ, ȍvāj, utolìkō, žȁlibože, hàjde, dȅ, nèmōj, ȅvo, ȅto and ȅno. The analysis has established that the words and expressions bȋvā, bȍgami, bȏgdō, bȏgznā, bȏjse, dȃj, jȅ li (jȅ l’), jȅst, utolìkō, žȁlibože are particles and do not have the category of person. The word bȍgati can be considered a particle that contains the grammatical meaning of person. The words ȍvō, tȏ and ȍnō are pronouns in some contexts and particles in other contexts. In both cases they contain the meaning of person. The words hàjde, dȅ and nèmōj in some cases behave like verbs. In some cases, they are nonflective and do not have the category of person, and, in such instances, should be considered particles. The words ȅvo, ȅto and ȅno are in some cases particles, and in some cases adverbs. They always have the grammatical category of person.
