Sofia Music Weeks in the context of the capital’s festival environment at the beginning of the new millennium

Summary/Abstract: The dynamic socio-cultural changes at the beginning of the new millennium also affect the capital’s festival environment, enriched with numerous forums with different profiles. For example, in the year of the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria to the European Union, more than a dozen events formed the Sofia musical landscape. Through two temporal “cuts” (2007 and 2012–2013) and some key expert documents, the text presents the doyen of the Sofia International Music Festivals in the context of the new, highly competitive conditions. As part of the Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia Municipality Sofia Music Weeks receive consistently high marks in the annual monitoring.
