Summary/Abstract: The main characteristics of the competence approach define it as dominant for the educational process, especially in the last decade of the 21st century. Competency approach is linked to new concepts in terms of content, curricula, educational programs, innovative teaching methods and approaches to learning. All this reveals the leading idea of changes in the strategies and technologies of the educational process, the goals and the expected results, the relationships between the participants in the educational process itself. This suggests that the competence approach should be accepted both as a standard for the quality of education and as a tool for implementing educational changes. In the professional training of music pedagogues, the competence approach is aimed at the formation and development of general and professional competencies, which in essence are fundamental for building the competitiveness of young professionals in the dynamic conditions of the modern labor market.
