Summary/Abstract: The article looks at two series of interviews with the leading Yiddish writers, (e.g., I. Manger, Z. Segałowicz, A. Kacyzne, M. Broderson, or H. Cejtlin), printed in the form of questionnaires in Polish-Jewish newspapers: "5-ta Rano" in 1937 and "Nowy Głos" in 1938. The major topic raised by the people interviewed by Stefan Pomer and Izrael Lewenstein included the condition and prospects of Yiddish literature in the 1930s, the operation of the Yiddish publishing market in Poland, the attitude to Jewish literary critics and the authors' expectations from the Jewish intelligentsia. Next to an analysis of Yiddish literature in the strict sense, the reviewer tackles the important problem of contacts between Jewish-language writers and Polish authors, the attitude towards "Wiadomości Literackie", with some comments on the activities of anti-Semitic political writers, especially Adolf Nowaczyński.
