Summary/Abstract: In vocation of every Christian – especially in the religious, missionary and priestly life – there are many challenges on poverty that provoke reactions in the Christian life, on a mental, spiritual and pastoral level. In this article with the title The concept of poverty of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, we intend to briefly describe how Saint Ignatius – the wellknown and highly recognized master of Christian spiritual life – understands, characterizes and implies poverty. Therefore, with Ignatius, we try to answer how a Christian life, especially the one consecrated to the service of God and the Church, could sincerely and deeply embrace poverty in his Christian vocation. We do this in the three chapters that deal with Ignatius’s concept of poverty in its chosen historical roots, in the Spiritual Exercises and in the apostolate and in the spiritual life.
