Functions of colloquialisms in contemporary celebration of Stations of the Cross in relation to other stylistically marked words

Summary/Abstract: The study is based on material of about 100 texts of the service published since 1977 until 2020. Despite the primarily written and elaborated character of analyzed texts there are many informal words in them, and their number increases with time. Traditionally colloquialisms are considered inappropriate in religious discourse, however, they are numerous. The number of colloquialisms depends on the addressee and on the author’s individual style. It is interesting that informal and formal words can coexist in religious discourse and putting them together in immediate vicinity has specific functions.
