Summary/Abstract: Regular meteorological observations in Bulgaria commenced on February 1, 1887, when the meteorological station in Sofia, situated on V. Levski Square, was opened. Data from these measurements, made with great pedantry, were published in the Periodical Journal. In 1888 Spas Vatsov edited the first exhaustive manual (130 pages) with instructions and forms for regular observations of different meteorological phenomena. This manual became the basis of methodological guidance of the meteorological activities in Bulgaria.
