Summary/Abstract: Ever since Roman times, many important roads passed through Livno, which creates a natural link between the Dalmatian coast and continental hinterland. Both, in the Middle Ages and during the Turkish rule, Livno was known as the important city of trade, an intersection or numerous merchant caravans. The goods coming from Italy traveled through Split and Livno further into Bosnia, whereas the Bosnian goods was through Livno transported to Split, and further to Zadar, Trieste, Venice, Vienna and even to Marseilles. In the course of the first decades of the 19th century, one of the more powerful merchant families from Livno was the Kujundžićs (originally the Barzuts) that moved Livno from Herzegovina in the 18th century. Being powerful merchants and landowners, they contributed a lot to developmcnt of school system in Livno. Some members of the family were mayors or Livno, so me became most prominent Bosnian leaders, and one or them performed the function or the state minister.
