Summary/Abstract: In this article we will analyse the poetic work Habitaciones separadas /Separate Rooms (1994) by Luis García Montero, relating it, on the one hand, to the essential features of the group to which the author belongs, the poetry of experience, and, on the other, to the elements of metapoetic discourse and intertextuality. The poet carries out a revision and a continuous dialogue with the literary tradition, from which he extracts themes and stylistic traits that he extrapolates to an urban and contemporary setting in some of his texts. The fictionalisation of the first person is another of the essential elements of this work, as well as the echoes in it of classical and contemporary authors. The presence of Petrarchianism and the poetry of Garcilaso de la Vega, of Enlightenment and Romantic thought, and of authors such as Machado and others, belonging to the Generation of 27 (Cernuda, Salinas), or of the poets of the 1950s (Gil de Biedma) is particularly noteworthy. We can say that Habitaciones separadas contains a polyphony of voices in continuous dialogue that demand an active reader.
