Basic Characteristics of the Traditional Rural Folk Costume in Herzegovina

Summary/Abstract: Based on its typological features, the traditional rural garb in Herzegovina - period from the first half of the 19th century and until the World War I - belongs to the wide-spread type of Dinarids folk costumes found in Lika, Kordun, Dalmatian hinterland, Western Bosnia and Herzegovina, Large portion of Monte Negro and Southewestern Serbia. The paper discusses its most chracteristic samples (shirt of Dalmatian tunic type, little red cap and white cloth dress in female traditional garb, as well as traditional male shaping of hair into queues, wearing of leather belts with belt bags, belts made of Levantine silk, red raincoates, woolen parts of footwear, strapped footwear made of untanned leather, etc.) confirming the above stated.
