The United States and the Bulgarian Territorial Question at the Paris Peace Conference, 1919

Summary/Abstract: The subject of this study is US activity in defence of Bulgaria in setting its borders with Romania, Greece and Yugoslavia during the Paris Peace Conference. Special attention is paid to President Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen Points, the US project for creating a Constantinople state, and the American experts’ thesis that territorial changes due to retributive causes would be fatal to peace. It is pointed out that the American efforts in Paris for political reconstruction of the Old Continent on the principle of national self-determination ended in failure. As a result of this, nearly 50 million people in Europe found themselves in a minority position.
