Legal Qualification of Marriage of Marcus Anthony and Cleopatra

Summary/Abstract: The alleged marriage between the Roman military leader Marcus Antonius and Queen Cleopatra of Egypt might present an excellent topic for a case study of ancient marriage law, which would also be diversified by legal eventualities flowing directly from life itself. This article attempts, at least partly, to develop this idea. Based on historical and philological research, we present both legal and romanist analyses of their mutual coexistence, which showed signs of internationality, whereas we point out the legal institutes associated with their life story (e. g. donation of state territory, legal regime of bigamy and other legal issues).
