Summary/Abstract: Americans have so far had three different approaches to the People's Republic: from the complete denial of its existence to Nixon's sudden cohabitation. Finally, the Copernican twist: the US noticed that there were no real ideological differences between them and post-Deng China. It marked a 'new beginning'. Before long, both countries easily agreed to mutual dependence (a relationship of benefit): the Americans indulged their private, mechanical and tech sectors by not restraining their greed, while the Chinese in turn made available their cheap labor and feigned submission. However, for both countries, this 'arranged marriage' was much more than economics, it was politics - Washington understood it as an interdependence that limits China, while Beijing saw it as an interdependence that puts them on the world stage. Meanwhile, the Chinese have mastered more sophisticated technology, and American Big Tech has become sophisticated in digital authoritarianism—technological monoculture meets political.
