Summary/Abstract: Following the introductory explanation of the concept of digital preservation, the author analyses the requirements that need to be fulfilled in order an institution could preserve digital materials for the long-term period. Thus, the author discusses requirements pertaining to ingest, archiving, and dissemination of digital materials stored in a digital repository. Next, he elaborates on the process of long-term preservation of digital materials during which it is expected that they will go through numerous changes of technology, media and file formats. The author also raises the question of the preservation of authenticity of digital materials since the notion of authenticity could be questioned after the inevitable changes that occur during the preservation process. Finally, recommendations for the long-term preservation of digital materials are given to the libraries, archives and museums.
