Summary/Abstract: According to Marian Mazur’s concept, man is an autonomous system capable of self-control. One of the basic characteristics of this system – character dynamism – is expressible by the natural logarithm of the aging factor to the expansion factor of the autonomous system. This article presents the Character Dynamism Questionnaire. This tool was created to empirically test the assumptions of Mazur’s theory and to capture the potential relationships of character dynamism with other constructs embedded in psychological traditions: for example, the Regulatory Theory of Temperament. The Character Dynamism Questionnaire measures character dynamism on a qualitative and quantitative scale. The article presents Mazur’s theory, its relationship to Strelau’s theory of temperament, the research tool developed by the authors and the results of preliminary analyses – conducted on a group of 54 people. The observations made in the pilot study present a promising picture. They suggest the compatibility of Mazur’s theory with empirical data and the possibility of extending the theory in question, thanks to observations of effects not directly expressed in Mazur’s work.
