Summary/Abstract: The focus of this paper is Kiš’ adaptation of Euripides’ Elektra. First, we will briefly observe the context of Atelje 212, which hired Kiš for this job, as well as Kiš’ background of writing and translating poetry. We will then give guidelines for Euripides’Electra, given that this play is in dialogue with Aeschylus’ earlier drama, in order to open up several aspects on the line Aeschylus–Euripides–Kiš. Further on, we will deal in more detail with the influences that Kiš states in his autopoetic noteOn Electra: the concept of the Theater of Cruelty by Antonin Artaud and the film Electra by Michalis Cacoyannis. It can be concluded that this Electra “according to Euripides” is less Euripidean and more Kiš’own product in terms of echoes, connections, influences–those being received from the point of joining the various aspects of writer’s personal cultural heritage.
